International Break
By: Pete | September 1st, 2009
The transfer window has closed and the international break is upon us. Slow times in the Bundesliga, but the blog motors on. Joachim Löw has called 4 of Die Schwaben’s finest for international duty: Khedira, Tasci, Cacau and Hitzlsperger. Germany’s games Saturday and Wednesday against South Africa (friendly) and Azerbaijan (WC qualifier) respectively should prove to be easy work, but the Azerbaijan match should not be overlooked if they are to keep ahead of a Russian team keen to keep up with Die Mannschaft. Others on international break include Pogrebnyak (Russia,) Boka (Ivory Coast,) Magnin (Switzerland,) Osorio (Mexico,) Marica (Romania,) and Hleb (Belarus.)
So where does that leave the rest of the team? Have they nothing to do? Nonsense. While the starters are away, the reserves go and play. A friendly that is, vs the mighty “non-league” FV Altshausen. I think that says all you need to know. I know, as you might imagine, nothing about said squad. I did however find a team photo. But practice is practice and it’ll be good to get some of the non-regulars some work in.

Post any thoughts you have here on the team’s players and their international duties, or really anything else at this point. Fire away-

Just an addition to those players on international duty…Called up for the U-21 German side (coached by former VfB II trainer Rainer Adrion) are Sven Ulreich, Stefano Celozzi, Timo Gebhart, Sebastian Rudy and Julian Schieber. Altshausen may very well be facing our U-9 side at this rate.

Look at that fat goalie in the photo. No wonder it was 14-0
