Armin Veh axed
By: 21 | November 23rd, 2008After falling to eleventh in the table and in the midst of five match winless run capped by Wolfsburg systematic 4-1 destruction of them, Vfb management fired manager Armin Veh and Alfons Higl.
VfB president Erwin Staudt said:
“In football, there are wonderful and also not so wonderful situations. We held talks with head coach Armin Veh yesterday evening and came to the conclusion that we are in need of change. Armin Veh and Alfons Higl have been relieved of their respective posts. It was a very difficult decision for us to make because we are very thankful what they achieved here over the past three years. I spoke with the team today too and made every individual very aware that he must call up his full potential. The dismissal of Armin Veh should not be seen as an alibi for the players. I expect everyone to be fully concentrated on the task at hand. This should really shake the team into action and hopefully we will use that in our approach to the up-coming tasks.”
Vfb will now be led by Markus Babbel who ended his long playing career with die Roten last year
Erwin Staudt explained:
“Markus will take over in the position of team boss, Rainer Widmayer will operate as trainer. We hope that together, they can guide VfB back onto the road to success.”

That was quick. Just hours ago I was out with my family celebrating my brother’s birthday (celebrating in advance actually given his birthday is actually in midweek) and when we returned back home (almost half an hour or so ago) and I turned the TV to see what’s on the teletext…Armin Veh got the boot.
That’s life. But then I remembered reading on Friday Veh admitted he made mistakes in transfer policy. Now he is the second coaching casualty after Jos Luhukay at Borussia Moenchengladbach.
What really freaked me out is that just on Friday, I was watching an interview of Veh on Deutsche Welle (that’s Germany’s international TV channel). We have the pay-TV in my family and DW is on that and on Deutsche Welle’s Bundesliga programme, there was an interview with Veh himself actually. The interview transcript has not been up yet (I had kind of forgotten the main things he said), the last I checked. DW usually post the transcripts on their website.

“21″ – no idea what happened to your match review but it disappeared. I know it was there yesterday but you should check on this

Diana – it was very quick and unfortunately needed. Discipline seems to be falling and I think the only thing that held them together yesterday was Jens. Let me know if you need transcripts and I’m guessing you speak German.
I wish you could watch the matches live – we’ve got to figure out something about that. Hopefully the new initiative the Bundesliga is looking into will include worldwide ppv options. I’m lucky with my work as we get every match.

Jackson, thanks for checking on that for me. I don’t know what happened…
sorry about the start of the Nord – btw, you must be biting you lip constantly talking about poor defending with Werder.

The interview is in English actually, 21. My German is not good enough to save my life. LOL.
I forgot to say it beforehand, actually the Bundesliga is on at where I live since the start of this season. Just that there is no TV rights for the Stuttgart match away at Wolfsburg. It does depends on each matchday. Anyhow, there has been a handful of Stuttgart matches on TV here already.

Forgot to add, English is actually my first language. Which is why I talk of my inefficiency in German beforethat.

Diana – If you want my help with translations just ask. I’m going to look into streams to make sure everyone can watch the matches.

You are welcome, 21. Anyhow, I had found the interview with Armin Veh. In English.
This was what I was referring to in my earlier comment here – http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,3828227,00.html
You can say it’s the final interview Armin Veh did before he eventually got the boot. I watched it last week on pay-TV (given Deutsche Welle’s English service is avaliable at where I live and it was aired on their channel) and two days later since that interview was aired (Sunday), he was relieved of his duties at Stuttgart.

Sorry. I was trying to say on Sunday, two days after the interview was aired, Veh got the boot. And I kept forgetting saying where I live. It’s the same as what ‘Posted from’ said after my comment each time. Singapore.
