Bits and Pieces
By: Anna | April 25th, 2008It’s been rather uneventful one and a half weeks, or not? Well, I totally forgot how busy university can be, so I’m rather glad about that.
Catching up with the latest events:
-We most probably don’t have a goalkeeper problem and, what’s even more surprising, we have players who can score when Mario Gomez isn’t on the pitch. On the other hand, it was a match against relegation-fighting Nürnberg and things might look a little different on Sunday.
- Speaking of players who score, Chancentod Ciprian Marica proved that he’s not always able to waste all chances, scoring six goals in a 12:2 test match against Landesliga club Ruthesheim. The same match also led to a minor scandal when Roberto Hilbert got into a little quarrel with an opponent, Daniele Scanzano. He’s supposed to have fouled the player and insulted him as well. Hilbert himself said he only told Scanzano “you won’t get me, I’m too fast for you.”
- Martin Lanig is now the first officially confirmed new signing. The 24 year old midfielder will come from 2nd division team Greuther Fürth. With the arrival of Jan Simak from CZ Jena being very likely, it’s quite sure that both Farnerud and da Silva will leave the team. A shame, at least concerning one of these players.
- Mario Gomez to the journalists at the training ground: “You’re going to ask whether I’m fit to play against Bayern and I’ll answer, yes. That’s boring, isn’t it?” Well, I’m relieved to hear it. Meira (shoulder dislocation) and Hitzlsperger (cut to knee, the wound’s not quite healing as expected, let’s hope this isn’t a new Sebastian Kehl) are definitely not going to play. Serdar Tasci has recovered from a minor cold just in time to replace the captain in the inner defence; Sami Khedira is not quite in shape.
- Speaking of Tasci, happy birthday! He turned 21 on Thursday. Best wishes to you, and may the new year bring a little more football and a little less bad luck with injuries. And another happy birthday to our number one team clown, Ludo Magnin, who turned 29 last Sunday.
- Yet another Gomez quote: In the first leg, when he was asked whether it’s possible to beat Bayern, his answer was “why not?” Now, asked whether it’s possible to beat Bayern twice and at home, his answer is, who would’ve guessed it, “why not?”

Happy belated birthday to both Tasci and Magnin.
‘Well, I’m relieved to hear it.’
Me too. One of the best news I have read all week.‘Now, asked whether it’s possible to beat Bayern twice and at home, his answer is, who would’ve guessed it, “why not?”’
We were the first club to stop Bayern’s unbeatable streak earlier in the season and though I have to admit it’s a matter of time before Bayern are crowned Bundesliga champions (still with matches remaining), like what Gomez said – “why not?”. Who knows, maybe at least we can still delay Bayern’s title celebrations…

“Me too. One of the best news I have read all week.”
Definitely. Along with Pardo wanting to extend his contract with Stuttgart.Well, it’s quite possible that we’re about to get ourselves a new favourite opponent. But I think Bayern never lost at home so far… We are able to beat them, but if we will actually do it is mostly a question of motivation and spirit.

Bayern lost to Anderlecht in UEFA cup……and they haven’t played so well in their home recently. So, why not

Agreed, Parker.
‘but if we will actually do it is mostly a question of motivation and spirit.’
Yup. Even Energie Cottbus (whom were at the bottom before they receive Bayern at home some time back in the season) managed to beat them. It’s possible. If they can do it, why not us doing it again?Posted from

Hitzfeld is a conservative old man. From my prespective, I’d hope Bayern goal first and as long as we keep our mind calm, we’d get more chances.
But since Bremen didn’t win today, Bayern know they would get the title if they win tomorrow. Maybe this will give them more energy or more pressure.Posted from

Ah, thanks Parker, I’ve never been that good with statistics
“If they can do it, why not us doing it again?”
It’s great how everyone seems to be repeating the “why not?”
I’m really hoping for a win. After all, Bayern are sure they’ll win the league and we need the points more than they do…Posted from

Bayern can’t win the league tomorrow anyway, so why such a hurry?
They should rest all their key players for the UEFA Cup and let Stuttgart beat their b-squad.Posted from

Jan, sounds like a good plan.
I think I read somewhere that Ottmar Hitzfeld has said that he will bring in fresh legs (in the wake of those injuries). The last I read, Oliver Kahn is not going to feature…
