Rainer Adrion to lead German U21
By: 21 | January 9th, 2009
Deutschen Fußball-Bund (DFB) President Dr. Theo Zwanziger announced that VfB’s very own Rainer Adrion will the lead German U21 national side effective July 1. Accolades of the new coach poured with Matthias Sammer saying he was his “favourite from the onset” and Mannschaft coach Joachim Löw added that “Rainer (Adrion) is exactly the man who we’ve been looking for to provide a link to the A team.”
While a tough man to lose, it is a great moment for all of German Football that we may share with pride.

Can you tell me a bit about Adrion’s qualities? What will he bring to the German U21?

Interesting what Matthias Sammer said. But maybe since after Heiko Herrlich (the person Sammer apparently wanted) ruled himself out, this opened the door for Adrion to be re-considered again. I remembered reading few days ago Oliver Bierhoff seemed to be hinting that they are ready to discuss about Rainer Adrion’s position again.
So that means Adrion will only begin his job after the end of European U-21 Championship. The details were thrashed out while I was offline!
Jan, I remembered reading that Rainer Adrion had discovered players like Mario Gomez, Sedar Tasci, Tobias Weis, Andreas Hinkel, Sami Khedira. And considering Adrion used to work alongside Jogi when the latter was the VfB coach from ‘96 to ‘98. That is mainly what I know.
