In a telling interview with Bild today, VfB manager Markus Babbel spoke of his goals for the club and the future of Jens Lehmann with the club.
Pleased with training camp he said the club has firm goals to make up for lost ground and break back into the top five before the end of the season as well as hoisting the UEFA Cup. However most interesting is his welcoming back of Jens Lehmann next season.
Noting his ‘keepers fiery demeanor and competitive drive he said of Jens:
”Jens is not content with mediocrity. That is understandable. Due to his age he will not have many more chances to win titles”, adding it is up to the team to show they are up to the challenge to be the best.
As far as the great ‘keepers future with VfB and whether he would be back next year Markus Babbel said:
”I have spoken to him and told him how much I would welcome it I would if he stays. The whole team benefits from his personality. He knows in how high esteem he is held by us.”

After the way he was treated at Arsenal, I think it’s refreshing to have a coach who values a good player who’s still got good years ahead of him.
