Parker, of course we can't hope that Mario will stay forever (though he might return to end his carreer here, wouldn't that be nice?). But, to be honest, right now I have a "anything but Bayern" attitude about it. Thing is, with their strikers they don't need him, they just want to have him so he'll stop scoring against them.

Diana, that's the thing about those newspapers, you never know when they know something and when they're just wildly guessing. Concerning that betting scandal, I don't know too much. Apparently matches in the Regionalliga Süd (third league back then, now fourth) were manipulated and the newspaper wrote that Schweinsteiger was involved, as well as two players from the TSV 1860, Paul Agostino and Quido Lanzaat, and were even interrogated by the police.

A few days later they had to admit that wasn't true (Schweinsteiger: "As far as I'm concerned, that's a lie."). So, yes, not always the most reliable source.

Luke, that's a sad thing to say, even though it's probably true. I still hope that Mario goes abroad directly, because a move to Bayern just wouldn't make sense, at least not for me.

Or Jan Schlaudraff. It was pretty clear to anyone, that there wasn't really any place for him in the team before he even arrived for his first training session.

It's true though, that Bayern can have any German-born player whenever they want. This doesn't make the player "Bayern-material" though. It was almost immediately clear that Torsten Frings for instance, just was not going to fit at Bayern, though it was certainly not for lack of ability.

'Though one has to add that Hoeneß’ statement was printed in the same newspaper that also “knew” that Aleks Hleb was going to join Bayern'
Wow. This reminds me of what I once read on the kicker website regarding Hleb moving to Barcelona. Something about Bayern losing the race to sign Hleb. Do they know something we don't know?

Anyhow, I once read that Rummenigge used to say they came close to making an offer for Hleb. Considering I read it on Goal.com (it got the quotes from Sky Sports News in the UK), take it as a pinch of salt - http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=789316

'and which came to a certain negative fame when they tried to involve Bastian Schweinsteiger in some betting scandal that apparently never happened'
What? This is news to me.

'But it does give me quite a headache to think about the whole issue repeatedly.'
I am more worse than you, Anna. I almost screamed my head off when I read about Hoeness claiming they came close to signing Mario Gomez.

That's the way it is in football. Back then my father and I were discussing about the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga and he raised something which made sense - the transfer window ends at 31 August and so anything can happen in between.

We need to admit that we are not a big club. We can't hold a super star like Mario(if he is). Money is so important in morden football world. I hate to admit that but it is true.
